    Hi Steven,

The last note I have seen in this echo was July 12. While since then we've ha >a glorious summer, a hunting season and 4" of wet snow on September 24, nu on
    has had anything to say.

We've had quite a summer, and now fall is still very warm.. along with more rain and flash floods :(

We really need things to dry out over here.. October is coming, and temperatures are still up in the high 70F's. I won't be sad about that though <grin>

It is this quiet which is lesding me to say 'Goodbye' to Fidonet. I get more tan enough email and messages on Facebook to keep me occupied and running my
events is now for the most part a waste of time. So on October 1, I'll have m
node shut down and call it a day.
It's been 22 years almost to the day and that may be long enough.

We will miss you if you decide to leave Steven!

facebook is ok, though not very personal I find. One can't fine messages easily either unless they're private to you.

    Take care,
    Janis

But FB does offer a GUI which meant that I could see pictures of my niece's wedding which I had to mess as I had cataract surgery at the same time.

In any case, I'll think on it.

That's cold :( :( but thankfully it's much too early for snow here..

We've had years when celebrating Halloween on Oct. 30th, meant wearing snow-jackets over your costume :) I'm hoping the fair weather in Sept. will continue in October :)

We will miss you if you decide to leave Steven!

    Thank you for that.

Sure, it was good to see some of my cousins post on facebook as well.. Gui or not, I don't think I could convince them to join Fidonet, or log in as a user <vbg>

In any case, I'll think on it.

    Thanks Steven :)

Just like everything now a days, now even message bases are getting too commercialized. As this occurs things get less and less personal. Unfortunately it is a fact of life we must contend with.

Btw you want warm? Down here Tuesday we hit about 95 degrees, right now at 3:38am it's still 77 degrees outside and when the sun starts to come up we'll hit 80 degrees before 9am, and this is after we started our cool down, last month at this time we had triple digit temperatures. I so love it down here, much better then dealing with the snow and ice I grew up with in Ohio.

Vancouver is certainly warmer than it is here but it can get quite damp in the winter. But your brother won't have told you that. :-)

So far so good. The snow is staying away and the weather the last few days has been quite reasonable.

He did :) Matter of fact, when we were living in Louisville, KY, my brother thought Louisville's rainy damp winters reminded him of Vancouver <grin> I remember we both laughed at what they called 'winter storms' in Louisville compared to what my brother and I grew up with in Warwick NY. :) In Louisville, the grass stuck up out of the snow most times when we'd get snow. He said it was about the same in Vancouver :)

I'm sure there are a number of bbs where you can do that.

You can use the web interface here, go to http://www.filegate.net:8080/bbbs You
register as new user by clicking on the New User prompt on the very far right of the screen. It's not the nicest web interface I've seen, but it does make message areas accessible in a gui.. You can enter messages and save them, and you can download qwk packets, but you can't upload replies.. sadly.. I may try again to get that working .. I wasn't successful the first time I tried. :(

Anyone can be a moderator. You don't need to have node number for that. We have some users who are moderators, and they use their sysop's system to send netmail to the Echolist when updates are due, that kind of thing. :) In other words, the system you'd use would have to let you enter netmail messages.

Or Steve you can login to my BBS at http://bbs.ds69bbs.com or telnet://bbs.ds69bbs.com. I don't have QWK available from the website yet, but it is available on the telnet side and there is a message editor to reply to messages on the website. I'm using it now to type this message.
