    Since I lived in Hawaii when it became a state (and Alaska when it was a territory during the Korean dustup), my dad was stationed at Hickam AFB,
    and saw bullet holes in buildings (yep, some are still there), I'm

    Tt was the day my father (groom) and his brother (best man) finished a long drive completely across Illinois and Missouri so my parents could get
    married. They heard a newscast (few car radios then) after they arrived.

    Fortunately, Dad decided to work through the Friday graveyard shift and
    only start driving Saturday after a good "nights" sleep.

    If he had taken Friday off to get there for a Sunday wedding, their
    anniversary would always have been a day of infamy.
