    Thyme is available both fresh and dried. Spread by the Romans over Europe, it has proven to have antiseptic uses (it is in many commercial mouthwashes). It is antifungal and according to Leeds University, is used to treat acne. Thyme is often used in egg, bean and vegetable dishes. If the recipe calls for sprigs, it means the whole cut branch, if spoonfuls, it means the needles.
